Five Reasons to Buy a Vinturi Wine Aerator

If you’re considering buying a Vinturi wine aerator, but are as yet undecided, why not take a look at some of the most popular reasons for buying one:

Firstly, and most importantly, if you enjoy wine then you will love this product. It is a well known fact that wine tastes better for ‘breathing’, which means that the wine is aerated. This is exactly what the Vinturi wine aerator does in a fraction of the time it would take if decanted and left to stand.

Secondly, if you enjoy holding dinner parties and want to impress your guests, this is a sure fire way to do so. Not only will your guests be impressed by your aparent wine knowledge, but also by the stylish and elegant presentation of the Vinturi at the dining table.

Thirdly, if you’re serious about your wine, and enjoy tasting new wines and really savouring the flavours and bouquet, then this is an invaluable tool to own. Explore the wine regions of the world in more depth from the comfort of your own home, or perhaps organize a wine tasting event with friends.

Fourthly, if you appreciate the joys of wine but are often short on time, then this is the perfect time-saving device. Forget about waiting an hour for the wine to breathe and flavours to develop, and simply open and pour.

Lastly, if you enjoy wine but are concerned about interfering with the wine, you can rest assured that the Vinturi wine aerator uses no artificial chemicals or tricks, but rather uses nothing more than the forces of nature itself. A clever design simply increases the velocity of the wine as it passes through a chamber, whilst reducing the pressure, giving rise to the Vinturi effect, which results in the drawing in of air.

Vinturi White Wine Aerator Review

www.liquorsnob.com

We’ve been excited to try out the Vinturi Aerator, especially considering the fact we’d never given much thought to decanting white wine, or even letting it “breathe” as we might a red. Vinturi was kind enough to send us a model to review, and when we opened the box we were impressed with the heft of the vaguely cylindrical gizmo that greeted us, and pleasantly surprised to find a no-drip stand and cloth storage bag as well.

We peeked through the Aerator, unsure how much effect it would really have on our wine, but decided to take it at face value. We poured two glasses from the same unchilled bottle of the best Chardonnay we could get at the supermarket for $3.49, one directly from the bottle and the other through the Aerator.

It sloshed through the gadget with a satisfying glugging sound, and we were fascinated by the bubbles we saw in the chamber, and if nothing else we felt like we got our money’s worth for the show alone. But would it fulfill its promises of a tastier glass of wine?

We took the two aforementioned glasses of wine, and we put them in front of our Senior Wine Intern, asking for a blind taste test of the contents of the glasses, to identify which had been aerated. After going through the tasting rigamarole, our intern correctly identified the aerated wine, saying the flavor and bouquet were subtly, but noticeably improved. Further tasting with other interns confirmed the positive review – this thing really works, especially on wine that starts out not-so-hot. The price tag may seem high, especially for those who don’t drink much wine, but it strikes us as a great gift and an exciting addition to the gadget-hound’s wine rack.

The Vinturi Wine Aerator – How Does This Great Gift Work to Eliminate the Need for a Wine Decanter?

The Vinturi wine aerator is an exciting new product for any wine connoisseur – as it eliminates the need for the lengthy process of decanting, in the form of a hand held device that instantly aerates wine that is poured through it.

This of course makes it an ideal gift for a lover on Valentine’s Day, a Dad on father’s day or anyone who enjoys a glass of red or white, for a birthday.

So how does it work? Well the science behind the Vinturi is known as “The Venturi Effect”.Giovanni Battista Venturi discovered the Venturi effect in the late 18th century. The principle states that as the speed of a moving fluid increases, the pressure within the fluid decreases. When wine is poured in the Vinturi, its design creates an increase in the wine’s velocity and a decrease in its pressure. This pressure difference draws in air, which is mixed with wine for perfect aeration. This has a very beneficial affect on the wine.

Wow! Complicated stuff, but what it essentially means is this – by holding the Vinturi over a glass of wine, and pouring the wine through the portable aerator, this nifty little gadget instantly does the job of what would normally be the slow and cumbersome task of decanting wine. And of course, unlike a decanter, the Vinturi can be taken anywhere – used at restaurants or as a great party trick.

So for those of us who are not keen enthusiasts in the world of wine, what does aeration actually do for your wine?

BETTER BOUQUET
All Vinturi customers will inevitably savour the nose of the wine. You’ll appreciate the subtle aromatic differences and the full aroma of the wine. Vinturi allows wine to display its intended aromas earlier than expected.

ENHANCED FLAVORS
Wine served through a Vinturi is more flavorful and has a more profound affect on the tongue. It tastes like a richer, more expensive wine. It tastes like it was intended to and this process takes as long as it takes to pour the wine. It also has the advantage where it can be taken anywhere.

SMOOTHER FINISH
Vinturi’s aeration is very effective at softening tannins which results in a much more pleasant finish. Any bitterness or bad aftertaste is reduced or eliminated.

So in short, the Vinturi wine aerator is the perfect gift for those who like their wine, and like it tasting and smelling its best, and with great texture.

Decant or Vinturi, the what’s, why’s and how’s

Long Beach Wine Examiner Jim Hicks

Wines need to breathe. We have all heard that, and, taking it to the next logical step, decanting has been the method of choice. Well Toto, there is a new kid on the block, Vinturi, a clever little device, can be used on both Reds and Whites. Vinturi, from Vinturi Products of Carlsbad, California, does instantly what decanting might take hours to do.

A special note: While most reviews of the Vinturi indicate a great acceptance by casual users and professionals, there are some veteran wine reviewers who are still on the fence or feel decanting is the only way, particularly with older reds. That being said, almost without exception, the individuals I speak, work and drink with are sold on the vinturi.

So, what does the Vinturi do?

From the Vinturi website, Vinturi states that the little device “draws the proper amount of air for the right amount of time”. As you pour the wine into the Vinturi, you will hear a small gurgling sound. That indicates the wine is flowing down the Vinturi, mixing air to the wine as it is poured.

Why does this matter?

Wine is a magical mixture of a liquid. It contains, sight unseen, aromas and tastes which are best released when mixed with oxygen. Since air is 20% oxygen and 80% nitrogen, the exposure of the wine to air creates a change due to the touching of oxygen to the liquid. (Hence, why you tend to swirl your glass or decant your wine. The swirling motion adds oxygen to a greater amount of the wine. The decanting allows oxygen to touch the wine as it is poured and as it sits in the decanter. (What does the nitrogen do? Nothing, as it is known as an “inert gas” and will have no affect on the wine.)

So, by adding air, more aromas, flavors and palate sensations are available to enjoy.

How do you do it?

The Vinturi has two methods of use. One is to hold the wine bottle in one hand and the Vinturi over the glass in the other. Pour the wine through the Vinturi, listen to the gurgling sound and watch the glass fill to the desired level.

The second is to use a Vinturi Tower. The Tower holds the Vinturi over the glass, allowing you to pour and keep the other hand free.

It’s that simple!

What about White wines?

Here there may be some different philosophies from the recognized wine experts. Historically, White wine was not decanted since most felt the decanting was of minimal or little value. From my perspective, there are two reasons why I believe you can decant Whites to improve their performance.

* First, oxygen reacts to both reds and whites. As a result, the whites should receive the same benefits credited to the reds.
* Second, having used the White Vinturi on White’s, I felt that there was enough of a difference that I think it is worthwhile.

Vinturi currently produces 4 products:

* The original Red Vinturi (approximately $40.00)
* The newer White Vinturi (approximately $40.00)
* The Vinturi tower (approximately $40.00)
* Filters which fit into the Vinturi (approximately $15.00)

Vinturi products are available at your local Crate and Barrel, either South Coast Plaza or Del Amo Center.

Five Questions with Vinturi Inventor Rio Sabadicci

http://www.winetoursoftheworld.com/images/staff/Jil&Sabaddici.jpg

Robert Dwyer, a wine enthusiast lives in the western suburbs of Boston.  He writes The Wellesley Wine Press blog to help people enjoy wine more while spending less money.  In late 2009 he had an interview Rio Sabadicci.  And below you will see the dialog.

In late 2009, early 2009 The Vinturi was the Number 1 Selling Wine Accessory on Amazon.com. It really is a beautifully designed product that works well. Rio Sabadicci, who invented the Vinturi, was kind enough to answer some questions I had about the product. Here’s what he had to say:

Q: The Vinturi is a device that you hold in one hand while you pour the wine with your other hand. Some other wine aerators attach to the bottle (for example the “Soiree” and the “Nuance Wine Finer”). Why did you decide not to have the Vinturi attach to the bottle?

Rio Sabadicci: In order for wine to pour out of the bottle, air has to go in. Plugging the bottle would prevent wine from flowing freely and we wouldn’t be able to achieve anywhere near the level of aeration we do. This is evidenced by the Menu aerator. They have a great design but forgot about air going in the bottle so their product just anemically glugs glugs a little wine.

The last thing I want is a thin glass globe sticking out of my wine. You turned the bottle upside in your video. What if the device slipped – it’s a disaster waiting to happen. Is it pronounced “Sorry”? That product is less effective than pouring wine into one glass and then another. I can’t believe some of the things wine drinkers fall for.

One of the reasons Vinturi is so effective is because it’s not stuffed in the neck of a bottle.

Q: I’ve had great results using the Vinturi with young Bordeaux, high alcohol content Aussie Shiraz, and tannic Napa Cabs. I even use it with white wines like Chardonnay and it seems to work well. Are there any wines that you woudln’t recommend be aerated with the Vinturi?

Rio: We recommend pouring a taste with and without Vinturi and drinking the one you prefer. We just want you to enjoy your wine. However, nearly all Vinturi owners use Vinturi nearly all the time. I prefer Cabernet and Chardonnay and can’t comment on the others.

Q: I’ve noticed is that if I leave the Vinturi out overnight without rinsing it that dried red wine remains in the aeration chamber. How would you recommend removing the dried red wine?

Rio: Either rinse under warm water or use your dishwasher. The Vinturi, stand, and pouch are all machine washable. If your detergent leaves a white residue, rinse it off under cool water. Treat the Vinturi the way you’d treat a wine glass.

Q: Some wines have sediment in them. How would you recommend such wines be filtered in conjunction with being aerated through the Vinturi?

Rio: Someone who has cared enough to keep a bottle of wine around long enough to throw sediment probably has their own solutions. The options are to pour carefully, decant into a container first, or use a strainer above Vinturi.

Q: Is the Vinturi Wine Aerator your only product? If so, do you have plans for creating other wine aerators or accessories at this time?

Rio: We’re working on new wine products as well as accessories for the Vinturi. I won’t release a product unless I’m thrilled with it, so I don’t know when new inventions will hit the market. I think it’s safe to say that you can expect at least three new things in 2009.

Thanks for your time, Rio!
